Level one – February 17th 2018. We return to the Molinos del Guadaira in an easy level one excursion, about 8 km long and 80 meters of ascent. It is an ideal day for the whole family where we’ll visit and explore different mills. We get to Alcalá de Guadaira by public bus.
Alcalá de Guadaira is a beautiful Sevillian town located in the region of Los Alcores and only 17 kilometers from Seville. It has an important artistic and cultural heritage where its castle of Moorish origin is of note. In the Gandul archaeological area there are several dolmens, and along the banks of the Guadaira river we’ll visit the fortified mills.
The water mills of the Guadaira River date from the Islamic period and as a consequence of the importance of the Alcalareña bakery industry, the city was known as “Alcalá de los Panaderos”.
On this excursion we will visit the San Juan Mill, the Benarosa Mill, the Algarrobo Mill, the Tapada Mill, the Aceña Mill, the Arrabal Mill, the Eras Mill and the Realaje Mill.
We’ll meet at the car park of the Riberas del Guadaira Auditorium Theater at 10.30 a.m. (Coordinates Gps 37.336523, -5.853731), and leave at 11 o’clock along the banks of the Guadaira, to do a circular tour of about 8 kilometers visiting the different mills and walking through the beautiful countrside.
We will finish the day sharing some sandwiches in the field in front of the castle of Guadaira, that we’ll visit after the shared meal.
